The newest album from Steven Curtis Chapman is very fun because it contains some stellar new songs along with exciting "recreations" of some of his past hits. Including some of my personal favorites: Dive, Live Out Loud, and Speechless.

This album is also special because it has two currently popular singles on it (Do Everything and Long Way Home). Even though Steven Curtis Chapman could be called a seasoned veteran when it comes to the christian music realm, his attitude has remained humble. He has been able to remain trusting God even when going through a terrible tragedy: the death of his young daughter.
The tracks on this album speak of doing EVERYTHING to God's glory, the long journey we are taking to our Home, and how to experience heaven here on earth.

Casting Crowns~ Come to the Well Review by Michelle Pell

"Come To The Well" is the fifth studio album of one of Christian music's most successful acts, Casting Crowns.The Atlanta based music group is committed to delivering thought-provoking music about topics that truly matter to their listeners. "...these songs are among the most intensely personal offerings the group has ever shared," says the group's website. The group does not preform shows on Sundays because the seven band members are all worship leaders at their own home churches. "Courageous" is showcased on Sherwood Pictures newest movie of the same title and challenges men to lead lives committed to Christ while imploring husbands to be leaders for their families. Popular single, "Jesus, Friend of Sinners" is all about compassion and love for the broken, and "Face Down" is a beautiful worship song. For the romantics out there, "Wedding Day" and "Angel" are both adorable love songs. One is about the best day of the singer's life and in the other the singer is amazed that an "angel" would love him. Whether you are a seasoned Casting Crowns fan or you are just now discovering the band, you will be greatly satisfied with the blend of scripture-based lyrics and contemporary rhythms the newest album offers.

Gold: Britt Nicole~ Music Review by Michelle Pell

“Gold” is the third studio release of Christian pop artist, Britt Nicole. I believe this album is such a great hit because of the diverse topics Britt Nicole sings about. Her songs tell boys and girls they’re worth more than gold, she sings about her desire to look like love to others, she challenges listeners to reach the world for Christ, and encourages believers to stand on Christ through the good times and bad. The album is full of intoxicating beats that make you want to stand up and dance. It contains fun and interesting auto-tuning while still letting Britt Nicole own voice to shine. I love that Britt Nicole was able to take the type of music popular with today’s secular culture, put her own unique spin on it, and replace the morally-bankrupt lyrics with God-honoring words that offer encouragement, challenge, and life to her listeners.

This new, debut album from new Christian music artist and producer, Jamie K, is definitely for the hip hop, R&B, and rap-loving lilies out there. The songs on Jamie K’s record, Never Gonna Stop, are foundational truths straight from the Word of God. As young women of God, I think we should be filling our minds with what is pure and true. Jamie K does an amazing job of singing truth directly into the hearts of  her listeners through lyrics straight from Scripture, upbeat rhythms and fun voice tricks. Topics of her songs include: the personality of Christ, her commitment to praise, and sacrifice.

Royal Taylor: Black and White Review by Michelle Pell

Black and White ~ Royal Tailor

The band Royal Tailor met while attending a Bible college together in Indiana. After graduating they spent a year working with the youth in Granite City, Ill. 

“Take a generous helping of soul...splatter it with bouncing rhythms, blistering guitars, engaging vocals, stellar musicianship and catchy pop melodies that make you want to move--all textured with the truth of God's grace--and you have Royal Tailor.” This is how the band’s website describes the kind of music they play, and I don’t think I could say it any better. Their site also says that they have a sound that “evokes Bruno Mars, Maroon 5 and a hint of Michael Jackson, Royal Tailor captures audiences with an infectious musicality.” But I think that even if one of those is your favorite, I believe Royal Tailor will soon move to the top of your list.

But are you wondering what in the world “Royal Tailor” even means? There’s a saying that says” Jesus ruled with the heart of a servant, and served with a heart of a king.” So the band says that with their name, they pay honor to God. “Royal” means royalty, King of Kings, Lord of Lords.” Tailor” means fixing men and adjusting our lives. Also because as sons and daughters of the King, we are royal.

"The overarching message is a call to action," says Tauren, the band’s lead singer. "A lot of our songs have to do with being Christ in the world.  We want to create a culture where students are doing the ministry. They are creating the ideas. They are dreaming the dream,  and then they are actually going out there and doing those things."

Love Revolution by Natalie Grant~ Review by Michelle Pell

Love Revolution ~ Natalie Grant

4 out of 5 Stars

Love Revolution is the eighth album released by Christian music artist, Natalie Grant. She has gained great prominence, with four consecutive Dove awards for best female artist.

I think this album is a tad bit "rockier" than her past productions, but it still has a very beautiful sound; it's not an overpowering kind of rock. Natalie has one of the strongest voices of any of the female artists on my radar. Her songs are full of solid messages. The themes of being the change in our world, the wonder and glory of God, and finding our definition in His love are all woven into the songs on this album. Because of the amazing lyrics and messages in the songs on this album, I think it might be Natalie's best yet. I love how she includes adoring songs of worship along with songs of how we should act as Christians and even one about our inner beauty.

Owl City~ All Things Bright and Beautiful Review by Michelle Pell

Owl City is an electronica musical project by singer/songwriter Adam Young. Like many bands started in the 2000s, Owl City gained popularity on social networks before being discovered by Universal records.

All Things Bright and Beautiful is Young’s third album, preceded by an EP, Of June, and his debut album Ocean Eye’s along with hit single, “Fireflies.”

If you’re looking for something new and fresh to mix up your current playlists, you must check this out. Every one of his songs is so fun and whimsical, they even make me laugh out loud sometimes. No matter what genre you tend to favor I’m convinced that this will be a new favorite for you.

Not Myself Anymore ~ Jessa Anderson

Jessa Anderson grew up singing in none other than my own home church. She was very involved in the choir and youth band. That love for singing and worshipping her Savior has blossomed into something spectacular. She has two independently released albums, Fundamentally Broken and Not Myself Anymore. When her second independent album fell into some hands someone at BEC Recordings, the label liked the album so much that, apart from a few tweaks and new album cover, they never had to re-record a single song. Jessa is just THAT good! Her voice is very clean sounding. You can tell it comes from deep within and she has true gift. Jessa’s voice reflects the style of Sara Groves and Nicole Nordemen, but with a musical twist all her own.

Jessa Anderson’s second album contains multiple songs that are about issues very close to her own heart. In her freshman year of college, Jessa was struggling with an eating disorder, something about her life she doesn’t toss around lightly. “I got to a place where I knew I could either choose my relationship with God, or I could choose to go down a path that was really going to destroy my life,” she says. Jessa made the decision to follow God’s calling on her life.

Jessa is married to a man named Jordan, who does back up vocal on her albums. Together they have a beautiful daughter named Lorelei, inspired by a character in Gilmore Girls. I approve J

Jessa sings about the glory of Jesus and the amazement she experiences when she’s caught up in the light of Christ.

2. Worship the Lamb

Jessa starts out singing about her longing to bring a new song to God and her ardent worship, but she ends the song with the revelation that everything we do gives Him worship, but nothing we do could outweigh the “the splendor of our glorious king.” At our best we are merely a breath for Him.

3. Not What I Thought

A song about how God isn’t always like the idea we have of Him in our head. When Jessa had the revelation that God’s not what we think, it inspired this radio single.

4. Not Myself Anymore

This title track is about a broken relationship but Jessa says this song holds double meaning. As we live life we go through trials and periods that develop who we are as a follower of Christ. When God uses those situations to define us and change us to be like Him, we realize we’re not ourselves anymore.

5. Everybody Has Those Days

A happy, light-hearted song, because as Jessa says “I’m seriously having one of those days all the time!” But she doesn’t forget the important message that being a Christian doesn’t mean we’re perfect; it means God is a gracious God and always good.

6. I Don’t Know

Jessa sings about the struggle with finding her true identity, and the need to always hide and never let others see who she is.

7. Return

A song of redemption, Jessa urges the listener to give up all they been holding dear for the cause of Christ, and ultimately return to Him.

8. Moving On

She sings that we all take chances on big dreams, get underestimated, make mistakes and have hardships but no matter what “we just gotta keep moving on.”

9. Offering

Jessa sings about the amazing grace Christ bestowed on her through all the troubling times. The chorus is an anthem to Jesus, that although she has little, all she does have is His. She gives it up as and offering to Him.

For Those Who Wait~ Fireflight

Fireflight is the true definition of Christian rock band. Hard beats, loud, strong voice, prominent electric guitar, but with solid wholesome lyrics that truly inspire the listener to “rock out.” Lead singer, Dawn Michele, makes hard rock actually sound beautiful, which in my eyes, gains her great respect. “This album is filled with even more personal stories of our own, our families’, friends’, and our fans’,” relates Dawn, who, along with Justin Cox (guitarist/support vocalist), writes the band’s lyrics. “It’s our lives, our hearts, and our pain just poured out. We worked to take the things that we struggled through and faced to leave a trail of bread crumbs, in hopes that other people would be able to see what we went through and find hopein that.” *

A Florida based band, Fireflight has been nominated for the Grammy’s along with Artist of the Year with several major single hits, and their songs have been used on NBC and ABC

This third hit of Fireflight was preceded by two equally popluar albums, Healing of Harms and Unbreakable.

I wouldn’t really call myself a fan of Christian rock, or rock in general for that matter. But I found my self truly enjoying reviewing the album. I would tell you not to be turned off by the “rock” title but try them out and your might, like me, find out a new favorite band for yourself

The title track of this album is about those who have gone who unspeakable tragedy are actually the ones who God’s has strengthened the most and who have the strongest character.

This song is about how even when you feel that you’re at the end of your rope and there’s nothing left, that’s when you discover the True Hope.

3. Fire in My Eyes

Dawn, lead singer, literally cries out to Jesus to come in be the fire in her eyes, all that she’s living for.

4. Core of My Addiction

A song about Jesus being the center of our lives, the drive of our hearts and ultimately the “core of our addiction.

5. What I’ve Overcome (Single)

The singer sings about now being defined by what she done, or failed to do, but what she’s overcome.

Before we know Jesus we are defined by our sins. But when we’re made new in Him we are only seen for what He is in us.

6. Name

A lot slower, this song depicts the story of different patients in a hotel room, and while it might seem like no one else can imagine what those people are going through, Jesus can. “He sees you, He’s near you, He knows your face, He knows your pain, He knows your Name.”

7. New Perspective

While reaching out to others and giving of yourself to the poorer, you obtain a new perspective of others and who you truly are.

8. You Give Me That Feeling

The lead singer sings about how Jesus (You) gives her that feeling of wanting to come undone before Him and all His glory.

A song about how Jesus has made us all we need to be, and with His help we can continue to become more like Him.

In this song the singers vocal are more prominent as she encourages that small voice inside to speak.

The Band Perry~ Michelle Pell

The Band Perry, a country music group, is composed of three siblings; Kimberley, Reid, and Neil. The three children started singing in Alabama, but now claim Greeneville, TN as their hometown and currently live there. Their four released singles are all on the self-titled debut album, released October 12, 2010. Their second single, "If I Die Young," written single-handedly by Kimberley, reached number one on the Hot Country Songs charts and has been certified 2× platinum (and is my personal favorite on the album).

I love it when I find a good, clean country band. No swearing or alcohol or sex references, which, a lot of the country music out there today seems to be chock full of. Though there are references to her leaving him or him leaving her, I am proud to declare this a good listen and to highly recommend it. The Band Perry has strong country sound, but they are unique, which I am always looking for.

This song is about a topic popular with women country singers: Men and Lying. In the chorus the lead singer describes all the ways "You Lie." Even though this song has a great upbeat tune, it still relays the underlying hurt felt by a women, when betrayed by her man.

Sung to a man about to pick his bride, begging him to pick her. Great country sound, with clean, fun lyrics.

A beautiful melody, the singer describes how she would like to be buried if she dies young. She also sings about how tragic young death can be. Sounds like a morbid song, but really is beautiful.

Kimberley sings about how she doesn't want the whole world. She only asks the man she loves, to love her "All Your Life."

5. Miss You Being Gone
From the title, you might even be able to tell what this song is about. The singer ex-boyfriend has come back, and she says that she does miss him; she misses him being gone.

6. Double Heart
In the song she sings about how when her boyfriend showed her his new tattoo with her name in a heart, she hightailed is outta there cause "she wasn't looking for a permanent thing" and "first comes the heart, then comes the ring."

7. Postcard from Paris
A bit of a sad song, she sings about how her "diamond is from an old promise ring." Also about how when "he" came around, it was the meanest thing he ever did. I didn't really get the meaning of this song. It has a great sound and all, but was super hard to decipher.

8. Walk Me Down the Middle
In this song, the singer asks her man to "walk her down the middle" of the county fair, and show the whole world, especially "her," that he belongs to her.

9. Independence
About the need the singer feels to "get away from this town" and gain her independence. She says she need to "get gone" and go to where "freedom is free."

10. Quitting You
I really like the chorus in this song. Not so much the lyrics, just how she sings them.There isn't any swearing or anything, I just don't especially like that she sing about "quittin' her man."

11. Lasso
The lead singer sings about how hard it was loving her man. As hard as "throwing a lasso around a tornado."

12. Queen Maybelline
about a girl with a troubled childhood and now a troubled life. But she can fly and be free when she "dreams she Queen Maybelline."

21 By Adele~ Music Review by Michelle Pell

Usually I will stick to reviewing christian artists and their albums but Adele has been getting such hype lately I decided to check it out and see what all the excitement is about. Here are my thoughts:

Adele currently has two albums out. One named 19 and the other 21, each getting their name sake from how old she was when she recorded them. Her latest album is soulful, full of songs of love, and of love lost. Her sound is very new and fresh, which I think is very important with all the popular music lately sounding all the same. Adele has a strong, breathy, soulful voice and her music has a oldies flair while still keeping it modern.
This album is very clean with no language and no mention of drugs, alcohol, or sex. The only thing I didn't like was that every song seemed to be one of love lost, or bitterness. I think those are okay in moderation though, as long as you mindset doesn't become one that thinks that every man is like that and there is no true prince. As long as you do it the right way, all will be well. All in all, I really like Adele and her style of music and I hope to see more albums from her in the future.

Christy by Catherine Marshall~ Review by Michelle Pell

My Rating: 5 out of 5

If you are reading this and are between the ages of 16 and 19, imagine leaving your home and all you are familiar with, and moving to a mission house in the primitive community, to teach school to the children in the area. Add the fact that you grew up in a privileged home and are now going to a place with barely enough food to pass around, plus no indoor plumbing.
That's exactly the story of Christy Huddleston. At 19 she felt God calling her to leave her home in Asheville, NC to teach school in the Smoky Mountains. During her time there, she learns to understand and love the mountain people with their poverty stricken lives, superstitions, and yearnings for hope and love.
Become a part of Christy's struggle to find out why exactly God sent her to this place. Also, as she witnesses terrible tragedies, why He, a God of love, could allow such hurt.
Christy also finds her heart torn between two men. One seems like the obvious choice, but Christy finds herself strangely drawn to the other. Will Christy listen to the reasonings in her mind, or find the strength to follow her heart?

I Will Go~ A Music Review by Michelle Pell

I Will Go ~ Starfield

Starfield is a group based out of Canada, started in 2000, with multiple awards including Covenant Awards and Vibes (Canada's Dove Award).

I Will Go, the group's third album release, is full of songs with lyrics straight from Scripture.

They do many church songs with a twist to how they sound. When you're standing there singing along to their songs, you can really get into the words and what they mean, instead of just standing there singing.

My favorite songs on the CD are Reign In Us and I Will Go. Both are extremely inspirational and meaningful to me. One song asks God to come and take over my life, and the other is a sacrificial song promising "I Will Go.”

If you don't enjoy most contemporary christian music and are more of a worship girl, this album is perfect for you because of its solid lyrics. But this album is in the genre of Christian rock, so to you rock girls out there, you will be able to sing praises while ROCKING OUT!

Whenever you are feeling down and out, or in need of a pick-me-up this album, with it's scriptural songs and peppy beats, will lift you right up and remind you that God is FOREVERMORE.

Wow Hits 2011~ "In Our Headphones"~ A Music Review by Michelle Pell

The complete Wow Hits 2011 album has thirty songs on it and two CDs. So I decided to split it up and do one review on each CD. I'll be starting with Disc One (as you may have guessed).

Wow Hits music albums have something for every taste, from pop, worship, and adult contemporary to rock, urban, and indie. I myself love every song on the 2011 edition, no matter what the genre. Disc one is full of encouraging songs talking about witnessing to a faithless world, the greatness of God, hope of Heaven, and finding our help in the Lord. It includes known artists such as Casting Crowns, Jeremy Camp, and Natalie Grant, along with some new ones like Josh Wilson, The Museum, and Matt Maher. I have the deluxe edition which features 6 bonus remixes, but it is a bit more expensive.

I was especially excited to find the song Our God was included in the album. The meaningful lyrics remind me that our God is stronger than anything that may come against us, and renews my hope in a fallen world.

This CD brings a fresh, upbeat feel to contemporary Christian music that I think much of today’s music is lacking. Francesca has positive lyrics, rhythm that gets stuck in your head, and important messages filling her songs.
When Francesca was only six years old she knew what she wanted to be: a singer. After going to see the Broadway show “The Secret Garden,” she had made up her mind.
Her dad was an assistant conductor for the national tour of “The King and I,” and her mom played Anna, the show’s female lead.
Francesca knew the road to theater fame wouldn’t be easy, but with one goal in mind she worked hard. Instead of signing up for sports or other after-school clubs, she filled her time with dance lessons and theater training classes.
When she was 15, she became part of an all-girl mainstream pop group in Orlando, an experience that helped pave the way for what she does today. She says it tied together two things she loved to do together: signing and dancing.
After the group split, Francesca felt she needed time to clear her head. She joined a youth ministry, and she says, “It was there that the Lord captured my heart for Christian music.” She started playing guitar and writing.

In this, her debut album, she shares the importance of following God’s will for your life, the fragility of a human heart, and accepting yourself as you are.

In this song she says that even though we go through rough times, and we’re not always perfect, God loves us no matter what, and we are “Free To Be Me.”
2. I’m Letting Go***
As soon as the first notes in this song are played, you find yourself tapping your foot along to the fast-paced tune.
The story behind this song is that when she was 22, she decided to completely let go of every thing and give it to God.
3. Unpredictable
Even though we may think we have everything figured out, God can intervene at any moment and show us, once again, that he alone is in control.
4. My Paper Heart***
The name sake for her album, Francesca depicts how frail a human heart is, and that even though our hearts may break, God comes along and mends them and makes them whole again.
5. Beautiful, Beautiful***
When God steps into our lives, even though we feel like we’re worthless, He will make it beautiful.
I find myself continually getting this song stuck in my head; the haunting lyrics, I just can’t seem to forget
6. Blue Sky
She writes this song from the point of view of Jesus. Wherever we are, whatever we’re going through, no matter what we feel, when we open up and let Jesus in, His love will become our blue sky.
7. Forever Love***
This is one on the true worship song on the CD. Francesca is basically singing directly to God, and telling Him that He will be her Forever Love. I love it.
8. Someday Soon***
This is somewhat like a love song to her future husband. She tells him that she’s waiting and that she believes that someday soon she will be his.
9. Behind The Scenes
In this song Francesca expresses the feeling that I think a lot of us have all the time. That is, people don’t see what really is going on in your life, and that if they would only try, they could see a lot more.
10. It’s Your Life***
“It’s your life/ whatcha gonna do?/” That’s one of the lines of one of the most well known songs of the album. Your life is here, now. Are you gonna live for Jesus, or be a lukewarm Christian?
11. Time In Between***
In this, another worship song, Francesca tells God that it is the time in between His birth and His death the truly amazes her.


I love this album, and I believe that it is a must-have on your iPod. When you’re feeling down, hopeless, or faithless, her music lifts your spirits and reminds you that there is indeed hope.
