Psalm 62:1-8
“Truly my soul silently waits for God;
From Him comes my salvation.
He is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense;
I shall not be greatly moved.
How long will you attack a man?
You shall be slain, all of you,
Like a leaning wall and a tottering fence.
They only consult to cast him down from his high position;
They delight in lies;
They bless with their mouth,
But they curse inwardly. Selah
My soul, wait silently for God alone,
For my expectation is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense;
I shall not be moved.
In God is my salvation and my glory;
The rock of my strength,
And my refuge, is in God.
Trust in Him at all times, you people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us.” Selah
God is amazing. People can be amazing too, but they can also be unreliable. Like the beginning of this Psalm states, God is the only truly safe haven for us to run to when our worldly friends fail us. He is the only thing we should put all of our trust in – not that Christian friends can’t help us in our times of trouble – but as Proverbs 20:6 says, “Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, but who can find a faithful man?” No one is perfect; only God is perfect. Eventually everyone makes mistakes and fails one another. God should be our unfailing hope, the only place we put our trust.
Psalm 146:5
“Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God.”
