Dear Nadia

Dear Nadia,

At the church I go to, most of the girls there dress fashionably and immodestly. I love to wear dresses and skirts to Mass, (I'm Catholic), but I feel so different from the girls there. The outfits I put together at home seem beautiful and modest at home, but when I get to church, I feel old-fashioned and just so different. I try not to care about the other girls' clothes, but I feel weird and out of place. What should I do?

Dear Feeling Different,

I totally admire your desire to be modest and beautifully-dressed for Mass! It's such an honor and blessing to the Lord! I know how you feel - it kind of seems like modesty is a dying art, even in the churches that preach it! I want to just encourage you to continue doing what you're doing. You are shining as a brilliant light for the Lord, and He says: 'Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.' (Romans 12:2) Offer all of this up to Him. There isn't much we can offer to God, but this sacrifice of choosing to dress nicely, even if you feel awkward and out of place, gives Him so much joy. Keep it up, beautiful girl!
God Bless!

  1. Great answer Nadia. I've been in that situation a number of times. It's never easy, but it's what we're called to do as women of God.
