Get to the Other Side~ Haylie Gregory

So, I was trying this writing style and this is sort of what came out. I wrote this when I was just sick and tired of my hanging on to the past, but I gave it to God and I feel SO MUCH better :) It's called Get to the Other Side

Get to the Other Side

What does it take

To get to the other side?

Tell me what it takes!

I’ve tried so many times

To cross this bridge

To get over it

To move on

To go to something more pleasant

Than this.

What does it take?

To get to the other side?

To leave

To take the first stride

To walk away

To say goodbye

To live a life

Where I will no longer cry

Over you.

Tell me, what does it take

To get to the other side?

Tell me what it takes!

I no longer want to ride this ride.

Did you know that Haylie worries about everything?!?!

Interview with Jamie K

Hello Readers!

I, Haylie, got the great privalidge to interview Christian artist Jamie K! I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I did and that you will go out and buy her CD "Never Gonna Stop"!

1)Tell us about your new album “Never Gonna Step”. What will we find on it?
You will find The Bible set to hip hop music. : ) Most of these song lyrics are straight out of The Bible and all are inspired by scripture from the Old and New Testament. God has captured my heart and I can’t help but write, rap, and sing music about Him! The music itself is an upbeat hip hop feel that will make you want to dance and fill you up with The Word of God at the same time.

2)You said that your heart is inspired by youth. What are you doing to reach them?
I look back on my time as a teenager and realize it was one of the most influential times of my life. I can remember a few people who took time to speak life into me, to encourage me in my walk with Jesus. Their words stayed with me the rest of my life. I want to be that person to the youth now. I want to speak life into their lives! So for my tour for this album I am going to schools and performing these songs with my fellow artist and good friend Sheila Marie. But our goal isn’t just awesome music, it is also to be an inspiration and speak life into these young people. Telling them truths from the Bible: God is with them, to stand strong for Jesus, to pursue their relationship with Him above all else, and yes you can achieve your God given dreams! Don’t be afraid to dream big, because your God is a big God and can do all things.

3) Tell us about Jamie K Entertainment.

Jamie K Entertainment is my label. Even from when I was a young girl I always had an entrepreneur spirit selling lemonade or I even started my own dog walking buiness! : ) God has grown my entrepreneur dreams since and God willing, I plan to expand Jamie K Entertainment in the years to come to produce and work with other artists, make music videos, and even movies. To create the best in music and media in all forms that glorifies God and spreads the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are so many talented Christians out
there and we need to reach the world in ways it understands like music, tv, and movies.

4) It’s refreshing to see that a Christian artist put a “Jesus!” page on their website! What was your thinking behind that page?

I haven’t always been labeled a “Christian Artist” in fact my first album was a secular album I released when I was graduating from college. I was a Christian writing music, but my heart wasn’t in it for the right reasons and I was unintentionally misusing my gift of music God had given me and missing out on the best He had for me. Over the last few years God has completely captured my heart and every aspect of my life, which is reflected in my current album “Never Gonna Stop” I came to realize my greatest success comes in serving Him not money or fame. So everything about my album and myself as an artist I want to direct the attention back to Jesus. A true deep meaningful relationship with Jesus is the most important decision anyone could ever make, so inside my album cover I wrote the scriptures each song is based on and included the website and Jesus link so anyone who gets a hold of my album has the opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ and ask Him to be their Savior.
5)What is one of your favorite ways to serve God?
God has been teaching me to “live by the Spirit.” I always thought the most important thing for me was performing and music, surely that is how I would really reach people! But I was so wrong. It isn’t what we do in the exciting times that is most important, it is what we do in the mundane repetitive things of life. So for me when I do everyday things like taking my dog for a walk I pray for God to help me see the people around me through His eyes and to literally “Walk in the Spirit”. So sometimes I feel the Spirit lead me to talk to an old woman sitting on a bench, or a young girl walking with a book, and it amazes me how when you let God use you to reach out to a stranger in everyday life circumstances it can change someone else’s life. Anyone can put on a great face when they are in the spotlight, but when you’re not your true character shows in how you live your everyday life.

6)When do you feel closest to God?
That constantly changes for me. I usually feel closest to God when I play piano, in my time studying His Word, or fellowshipping with other believers praying and worshiping God as a church body. But then there are times when I don’t feel Him and wish I could! God promises in His Word that “He will never leave you or forsake you” I always desire to feel His presence but I have learned to not trust my feelings and trust in His Word, He is always with me, that is what His Word says whether I feel Him or not.

7)What is one of your favorite attributes of God?
His faithfulness, it amazes me! How could he always love us and remain faithful to us even when we turn our back on Him? The book of Hosea in Old Testament is one of my favorites, all about how God always loves us and remains faithful when we do not, I can not fathom His faithfulness and love for us!

8)What do you enjoy to do in your downtime?

I love to take my dog to the beach and laying in the sand or playing in the water. I love feeling the sun and being outdoors playing tennis or wakeboarding. My husband and I also recently took up archery and that has been a blast, I shot an apple! : )

9)If you were standing in front of a large crowd of teenaged girls, what is the one thing you would tell them?
Don’t believe the lies the devil is trying to tell you! I wasted too many hours as a teenager looking in the mirror wondering if I was pretty enough when God had already made me as His masterpiece! You are a masterpiece! When the devil tells you your not good enough, smart enough, or pretty enough rebuke him in the name of Jesus Christ your Savior and say “I am a child of God, holy, set apart, loved, cherished, and you and your lies have no power over me.” The devil was defeated 2,000 years ago when Christ was raised from the dead, he has no power over Christians, but he will still try to lie to us and make us believe he does, but he doesn’t that is only part of the deception! You are free! You are who God says you are, and He says amazing things about you!
For a scriptural list of who God says you are:
10)What was your inspiration behind your album “Never Gonna Stop”?

God deserves the best. The best everything including the best music. Christian music doesn’t have to be a certain sound and it should be as good if not better than secular music because God deserves the best! My goal was and is to write and produce Christian Music that is the best in quality and content to inspire people to want to know Jesus.

Favorite color? Yellow
Favorite movie? Enchanted
Coffee or Tea? Decaf : )
Sour or sweet candy? Chocolate!
Heels or flats? Flip Flops

Single Ladies: What Do You Do? ~ Haylie Gregory

Single, the last word every girl wants to hear on Valentine’s Day. Instead of sulking about it, why don’t you check out this list I made on some pluses on being single.

©         You don’t have to try to impress anyone! You can have greasy hair and sweat pants on if you feel like it!

©         You can eat those nasty smelling chips and not have to worry about offending anyone.

©         You can play any videogame you want and not have to let him win.

©         You can watch whatever movie you want instead of having to decide on something you both want to watch.

©         You can take your girlfriends out for lunch and talk about movie actors! It would be weird to do that with a guy now wouldn’t it?

©         You can wear your jacket instead of having to feel like you are supposed to be wearing his.

©         You can paint each of your toe nails a different color and not worry about what he will say.

©         You can spend the day with your daddy! He’s loved you your whole life! Don’t have a daddy? Spend the day with your Heavenly Daddy. He’s loved you even longer!

©         You can eat a whole gallon of ice cream and not have to answer to anyone, well maybe your parents!

©         You can write a love poem or letter to God instead of feeling like you should write one for your bf.

©         You don’t have to share the couch! Hog it girl!

©         Liked that movie you picked out earlier in this list? Watch it again!

©         You don’t have to wonder if your bf will like the shirt you just tried on. If you like it, buy it!

©         You can dance around your living room like you are Ginger Rogers! Don’t know who Ginger Rogers is? Go on YouTube and look her up! I bet it will help you figure out what movie you want to watch.

So, if you are single (like me) and don’t want to sulk on being single, remember this list and live up your Valentine’s Day! Grab some of your single friends (girls and guys!) and have some fun! Just because your single doesn’t mean you can’t have fun on Valentine’s Day! Just remember who loves your more than many one else possibly could!

What Version of the Bible Should I Read? ~ Haylie Gregory

Have you ever wondered what is the difference is between the KJV (King James Version), NIV (New International Version) and NASB (New Age Standard Bible) versions of the Bible? Many people like to read NIV or NASB because it is easier to understand instead of the KJV. I did some research to see if there was a difference between them. There is a major difference which has caused me to be a strong believer in the KJV only.

Matthew 18:11 in the King James Version says, “For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.” NIV has omitted this verse from the Bible. When I read this, I could not believe that they would completely omit a verse, so I found a NIV Bible and looked it up. They were right. It went from verse 10 to 12, no verse 11 was found. By omitting this verse, you are saying that the Son of man did not come to save the lost! Is that not why Jesus came?

Matthew 19:17a in the King James Version says, “And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good?...” The NIV and NASB says, “Why do you ask me about what is good?” I ask you, how could you get this out of what the KJV said? They did not ask what was good. They called Him, the Son of God, good. They tangled their words around.

Luke 4:4 in the King James Version says, “Ma shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.” The NIV and NASB say, “Man does not live on bread alone.” The omitted the ‘but by every word of God.’ So, what do men live on then if not bread? By taking this part of scripture out, you are saying that we are not to live by the Word. What are we to live by then?

Every verse changed had made me very upset, but this one got me fired up. Acts 8:37 in the King James Version says, “If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” NIV omitted this verse. This verse explains that all we have to do is believe in Christ and we are saved! We don’t have to get baptized (we should, but it’s not what saves us). We don’t have to say a special prayer. All we have to do is believe on the Son. By taking this verse out, they are taking the simplicity of the gift of salvation out of the Bible. How horrible!

Brook Foss Westcott and Fenton John Anthony Hort noted that, “The modern critical text that forms the basis for nearly all modern versions omits the equivalent of the entire books of 1st and 2nd Peter.” Almost two whole books from the Bible are omitted! Mark 16: 9-20 are omitted from a certain version of the Bible. How is the Word supposed to be complete if parts are missing? I think what hurt me the most was finding out that they take the word ‘blood’ out of these versions. How are we saved but by blood?

Revelation 22:19 in the King James Version says, “And if any man shall take away from the prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”  Note that it says ‘from the prophecy’. The NIV says, “And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy...” Note that this version says ‘from this book of prophecy.’ Now read what the NASB says. “And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy...” Just like the NIV, the NASB says ‘this prophecy’.

There is only one prophecy and that is the one from God which is written in the King James Version. All the other versions go against this verse by changing what the Bible says. How are we to believe anything if they are changing it? How are we to know God if we don’t know what He said? The King James Version gives us the direct translation of the Bible from its original written languages, Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. This is the version of the Bible we should read because it is the complete Bible.

Interview with Shari Braendel

In October, I had the great privilege to interview fashionista Shari Braendel! This women is the ideal modest women in my eyes. She encourages modesty and fashion and explains how they can go hand in hand. I bought and read her book "Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad" many times and I got more out of it after each read. I highly suggest you check it out! Read this interview with Shari and I'm sure you will love her as much as I do!

Love Always, Haylie Gregory

1)     Why should women dress modestly? Women should dress modestly to honor God, themselves and the guys around them. God’s Word instructs us to NOT trip up our brothers in Christ and immodest dressing does just that. The Word also instructs us to honor God with all our hearts and minds and by dressing modestly we do that. But understand that I believe that modesty doesn’t mean fuddy duddy, it can be stylish, fashionable and fun!

2) What inspired you to write "Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad"?   I never planned on writing a book but I started getting invited to churches all across the nation to speak and afterward women and girls would ask for a resource to take home so the book was born. Zondervan saw it as a great resource for Christian women and took a chance on publishing the first ever (and still only) Christian fashion guide for women in the marketplace.

3)What is your favorite fashion season? Fall, for sure. I wear warm colors all year round due to my coloring and having a plethora of hues to choose from that suit me is this fashionista’s dream!

4)What should every teenaged girl have in her closet? A great pair of jeans, lots of long cami’s and a pair of ballet flats.

5)What would you tell every girl who wanted to be more modest or live modestly? I would tell her to remember that fashion meets faith the minute she decides what to put on her body each day and that her clothing choices are going to show the world who she is and what she believes.  Society will try to teach her that dressing modestly isn’t fashionable and it absolutely can be. I would advise her to be creative with her clothes and show her personality thru her style but never compromise her values.

6) Who are your fashion icons? Why? The only book I keep in my living room (besides my bible which seems to travel from room to room) is a coffee table book called A Matter of Style . It’s a portrait of 10 women who changed fashion and so many of those women shaped my views of fashion and the industry. My favorites are Coco Chanel for her classic style, Katherine Hepburn because she was unconventional in her dressing by stepping out and wearing pants way before anyone else and Mary Quant because she had so much to say about style and the way it affected people. I read and re-read that book.

7)What is one of your fashion weaknesses? Only one? LOL. That would have to be handbags. I have a rule that when I buy a new one, I give one away, otherwise there would be no room for my clothes. I just bought a fabulous (I mean FABULOUS) Michael Kors classic huge bag that I’m planning on carrying for a very long time. However I just caught myself in the purse department the other day and made myself leave before I bought another bag.

8)What NEVER goes out of style? Hopefully my Michael Kors handbag!
And also, a classic blazer, ballet flats, silver or gold hoop earrings, jeans and a simple white t-shirt. Put them all together and you’ve got a great outfit.

9) What is one thing you cannot live without? I must have at least one cat at all times. Right now I have three, Belle, Lily and Olive. A girl’s gotta have limits, right? Okay, my husband limited me to three, but I will probably be the little old woman in my nineties who lives in a cottage by the lake with a dozen little furry friends! I just love them so much because they have amazing beauty and such individual personalities.

10) What are some tips you would give to a girl who wants to be a junior fashionista? Be true to who you are and don’t be afraid to show your style by wearing clothes the way that only you can. Only a fashionista would understand what I mean by that. Also, read every fashion magazine and style book you can get your hands on. I would live in the library if I could, just reading all the books on style, beauty and fashion that I could. I still do that on occasion.

Random Questions:

1) You never leave the house with/without...?  I never leave the house without my sunglasses. I never leave the house with: my cats! They have to stay home.

2) Would we ever catch you in jeans and a T-shirt? Jeans, yes; T-shirt, no

3) Muffins or Cupcakes? Cupcakes for sure, hopefully with lots of frosting!

4) Sour candy or Sweet candy? Sweet, especially white chocolate

5) Photographs or Paintings? Paintings

To Often Forgotten~ Haylie Gregory

I sit here on your old nightstand,

Forgotten like a 60’s band.

Abandoned, neglected, cast aside

Discarded, over looked, not worth trying to find.

I’m collecting dust and growing old.

My pages yellowing at the fold.

I’m buried underneath your stuff

That you once thought would be enough.

How long has it been since you’ve opened me?

How long has it been since you’ve felt free?

Free from your worries? Free from your sin?

Free from your heartache and your fear within?

Open me. Let His Word come in.

Please! Open me! Let His work begin.

5 Fashion Do Not's~ Haylie Gregory

Almost every girl wants to know what is fashionable and in style. If you are reading this, you are probably one of them or you can simply be curious. What is ‘in’ and what is ‘out’ changes all the time, but there are 5 things that will NEVER be in style.

~Your Bra Straps: You may think that it’s a trend, but honey, it is SO tacky. Don’t ever go there. Bras are not to be seen so why go showing them?

~ Your TaTa’s: This should be a no-brainer. Keep the ladies hidden. This is a private part and private means ‘not to be seen by anyone but you’. Tell your tata’s ta ta and invest in some undershirts.

~ Your Hiney: I know it’s hard to find jeans that don’t ride down when you squat or bend over, but there are ways to cover it. You can wear a longer shirt that covers the often revealed area or invest in a belt. Now you have no excuses so no more hiney!

~Your Tummy: Ask yourself this, would you go to church wearing a shirt that revealed your tummy? Need I say more?

~ Your Underwear: This kind of goes hand in hand with covering your hiney. Make sure that you are not flashing your underwear at anyone. Also, if you can see the outline of your underwear or especially the color of your underwear, DO NOT go out of your house, better yet, don’t even walk around your house like that! If you can see the outline of your underwear your pants might be too tight or your underwear might be too big and are bunching up. If you see the color, wear a white or flesh-colored pair. Remember, they are called UNDERwear for a reason.

We dress modestly for a few reasons…

1)      To respect the temple that God gave us

2)      To help our brother in Christ not sin

3)      To show others that there is more to you than your body

If you remember these 5 Do Not’s, or what I like to call them ‘Don’t Your Ever or I’ll Find You’s, you will be off to an amazing start at being fashionable and modest!

What Do You Do For Your Do? ~ Haylie Gregory

If I went rummaging through your bathroom cabinets would I find it full of hair products or full of dust and cobwebs? If you went through mine you’d most likely find both! Many bottles are covered in dust with only a little bit of product used while others I am scrapping the sides trying to get every bit I can.

If you have a cabinet like mine, you are a product junky. You’ve tried many products and you know what you like. I want to encourage each one of you to not be afraid to try new products! But before you go out and fill your shopping cart full of hair products, I want to share with you what each product does.

Mousse: Mousse is one of the most versatile products out there. Its primary purpose is to add volume and hold, but it can also fight frizz, add shine, fatten up fine hair and define curls. Mousse is great to use for those special occasion do’s. It will keep your hair looking elegant all night long. I highly suggest you use mousse for hold if the smell of hairspray bothers you.

Hairspray: Hairsprays main purpose is to provide hold, but each hairspray can provide a different kind of hold. Some can give you a natural, lightweight hold while others can give you a rock hard hold! Lightweight hairsprays are wonderful at fighting frizz and making blow dried hair smooth and soft. Firm holds are good for keeping those up dos in place.

Shine Spray: Shine spray is a finishing product that gives you a nice, shiny polished finish to your hair. It can also control frizz and flyaways. It is ideal for those special occasions do’s.

Thickening Lotion: Thickening lotion is known as the alternative to mousse. This can build body and volume and also add texture to your hair for a fuller look. Some often have treatment properties that can boost strength and condition your hair! Unlike mousse, they do not give you as much texture or hold, but it does give you much more softness and flexibility which is a major plus!

Dry Shampoo: Dry shampoo is primarily used to freshen up dirty hair between washes. It also creates volume at your roots, gives your hair a messy, matte look and makes freshly washed hair easier to style. It is fantastic for those who want their styled hair to last more than one day.

Gel: Gel is ideal for girls with naturally curly hair. It defines curls and tames frizz. It is also great to keep short looks in place if it is stronger hold. You can get it in a cream or lightweight formulas. Gel will give your hair a wet look if you do not blow dry it.

Serum: Serum is superb at achieving a sleek, high shine finish. It can also be used to control frizz and flyaways, define curls and increase impact on a straightened do. It is also useful for protecting your hair from hair damage though I suggest you only use it when you are out of heat protector.

Texturizing Products: This category includes pastes, putties, clays, muds and waxes which are all top notch for short cuts/styles. They are used in the final stages of styling hair to create texture, define random ends, create a piece/ separated effect, add polish and shine or create a matte, messy effect.

Creams, Lotions and Balms:  These are the go-to products when waxes, pastes and putties are too heavy for the longer hair. They are used to define ends and create texture and separation they also can define curls and add softness and shine! Some can even help hydrate your hair. (Bonus!)

Thermal Protectors: Thermal Protectors are a must-have for every girl who applies heat to her hair. They protect your hair from the heat damage causes by styling your hair with heated tools. A really good thermal protector also helps protect your hair from sun damage.

As you can see, there are many styling products you can us on your hair, but here’s the main question: where are you going to start?

It Was Crystal Clear to Me~ Haylie Gregory

I didn’t notice it sitting there. It was small and out of the way of any. How was I supposed to know it was so important? The only reason I noticed it was because the sunlight caught it as I was passing by. It was just lying there, unnoticed by all who passed. I picked it up and brushed off the snow that had rested upon it. It sparkled as the sunlight caught it once again. I twirled it around in my fingers, mesmerized by the way it cast a rainbow on the sidewalk. I had never seen an actual crystal before. Who knew that such a small, simple object, could behold so much beauty?

I tucked the crystal deep into my pocket and continued down the sidewalk. I could feel the crystal rubbing up against my leg as I quickened my steps to the coffee shop. I was anxious to escape the blistering cold, December weather. I, happily, opened the door to the coffee shop and ordered a caramel macchiato and a cinnamon bun, a little treat for a hard days work. I found a seat close to the fireplace and tried to warm myself.

Once I placed my bag on the floor, I reached into my pocket and retrieved the crystal. I stared at it, watching the flames from the fire glisten through the crystal. It made every bit of light seem much more radiant than it really was. It seemed magical.

I placed the crystal down on the table when my coffee and cinnamon bun arrived. Wrapping my hands around the coffee cup, I lifted the cup to the tip of my nose, inhaling the scent of sweet caramel. My body was instantly warm. A few moments later, a short, pixie-like woman entered the coffee shop, followed by a tall, strong looking man. Both of their faces bore the same, sad look. They ordered their coffees and took the vacant seats a table away from mine. The women ran her fingers through her hair and rested her head on the palm of her hand.

“It’s okay, Jennifer,” the man said as he reach of her hand. “We’ll find it.”

Jennifer sighed as she intertwined her fingers in his. “Brian, we’ve been looking all day. It’s gone and I just have to accept it.”

“I think we should keep looking. I know how much that crystal means to you,” Brain said. He looked at her with such sweet compassion. You could clearly see that he cared for her.

“Yeah, it was my grandmother’s. She gave it to me just before she died. Grandpa Hamilton gave it to her as a wedding gift. I was hoping to wear it for our wedding. I just can’t believe I lost it.” Jennifer sank her head into her hands and let out another heart-breaking sigh.

I looked down at the crystal that sat on my table. The side of my lips curled up in a small smile. I knew the crystal was magical. I looked over at Jennifer and Brian and saw the magic there. It was true love.

I grabbed the crystal from the table and walked over to Jennifer and Brian’s table. They looked up at me, both looking very tired and cold.

“I’m sorry, but I overheard you two talking about a crystal and I wanted to ask if this was it,” I said as I extened my hand that held the crystal.

Jennifer’s face lit up. “Oh goodness! My crystal! Brain, look! It’s my grandmother’s crystal! Where did you find it?”

“Three blocks from here. It was buried underneath some snow. If the sun hadn’t caught it, you never would have been able to find it.” A huge smile covered Jennifer’s face, as well as Brian’s.

“Oh thank you! You have no idea how important this is to me!” Jennifer said, looking up at me through tear-filled eyes.

“I’m just glad it’s back to its rightful owner,” I said with a smile.

“How can we repay you?” Brain asked me, looking just as delighted as Jennifer.

“No need, just be sure not to lose it again.”

“Oh, trust me; I’m going to lock it away in my jewelry box until the day of the wedding!” Jennifer said laughing.

“Good idea and congratulations on the wedding!”

With their many thanks, I left them to themselves and sat back down at my table. I couldn’t help but glance at Jennifer and Brain every now and then, looking much more cheery than when they walked in.

I couldn’t help but think about how much more special Jennifer’s wedding was going to be, having her grandmother’s crystal around her neck. I wondered if she would have a daughter and pass the crystal down to her, along with the story of the day she thought she lost it forever. I then took a bite of my cinnamon bun, feeling delightful about how wonderful the day had turned out to be.

Interview with Robin Jones Gunn!

In September, I had the great pleasure of interview the well-known and greatly admired author, Robin Jones Gunn! Robin has written over 75 Christian books for women, teens and young girls. She worked in the youth ministry and is a speaker. She is currently living in Hawaii with her hubby, Ross and their dog, Hula! Enjoy this little interview and get to know Robin better!

Haylie~ I was recently listening to an interview Margaret McSweeney from "Kitchen Talk" did with you and she said that you just completed writing your 75th book! How amazing! How do you feel about it?

Robin~ The 25 years that I’ve been writing for publication have gone by very quickly. I didn’t even realize I was at book #75 until I had to do an inventory list. I looked at the list and felt overwhelmed. I knew more clearly than ever that this is all a big, amazing God thing and His dreams for us are more extravagant and enormous than anything we could every come up with in our imagination.

Haylie~  Out of all the books/series you have written, which was your favorite to write? Why?

Robin~ Oh dear. This is like trying to say which child is my favorite. Or which friend is my one-and-only favorite when I love each one for different reasons. I’ve been asked this question before and I always say the first Christy Miller book, “Summer Promise”. That’s what I’m going to say again this time. I think it’s my favorite because it was the first novel I wrote and it was the most challenging one to write. I had to learn everything as I was writing and I truly put my whole heart and soul into that story over a period of two years.

Haylie~ Each one of your characters has its own uniqueness about them. Did you come up with these characters on your own or do you base them off of people you know?

Robin~ When I start writing a new story I fill up a binder style notebook. I cut pictures out of magazines of different characters, I write short profiles for each one and I cut out pictures of their clothes, cars and furniture. With Sierra Jensen I found a pair of cowboy boots and knew she had to “have” them. My kids used to think it was like playing paper dolls.

When I write the profile or bio for each character I sometimes think of people I know and incorporate a piece of their personality into that character. But for the most part it’s all made up. Some things I draw from are from my life. For instance, our son is allergic to bee stings and had some bad reactions when he was little. So I decided that Todd was allergic to bee stings, too, and that came up in the story, “Island Dreamer”.

Haylie~ When you are not writing your next bestselling book, what are you doing?

Robin~ I love to travel. I also speak fairly often and I really enjoy that. I started an Online Shop two years ago and that has taken a lot of time and creative energy but the results have been terrific and lots of great ministry is happening as a result of the books that are sold in the Shop.

My husband and I have really great friends and we enjoy spending lots of time with them. Our son and daughter are both married but they come to Hawaii with their spouses every chance they get so that fills up my heart.

We live about a mile from the beach. My favorite time to go swimming is in the early morning. I walk down to the ocean, jump in and swim about and then I walk home as the water dries on my arms making little white polka dots from the salt. That’s a happiness. I love listening to the doves in the morning outside our open bedroom window.
Haylie~ What can we expect from you in the next year or so?
Robin~ The next three books coming out are:
“Love Finds Your in Sunset Beach, HI” Sierra Jensen’s love story October, 2011
“Finally and Forever” book 4 in the Katie Weldon series May, 2012
“Cottage by the Sea” a novel that is close to my heart and taken from when my dad had a stroke. Sierra’s wedding is tucked inside this novel. Summer, 2012

The Magic of the Candle Light Service~ Haylie Gregory

I walk into my dimly lit church with my family. It’s a brisk Christmas Eve and we are dressed in some of our more holiday-like church clothes. The auditorium is quiet. Everyone is talking no louder than a whisper. In the front, there are over forty candles lit. They are the only source of light in the entire church.

I sit down next to my family as the pastor makes his way to the front. The pianist follows him. As the pianist approaches the piano, the pastor begins to speak. “Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedules to come and spend a time of worshipping the Lord in songs. We would like to begin with ‘Away in a Manger’”. We all stand up and begin to sing. There is no need for hymnals. We all know this song by heart.

The piano is played softly as the sound of our voices fill the air. It sounds so quiet and peaceful. It is how I always pictured the night our Savior was born, peaceful, quiet, and full of music and people who loved Him. My voice cracks a bit as I try to reach a high note, but I know that when it makes it to my Father’s ear, it will be a peaceful sound.

We continue to sing Christmas hymns throughout the service. I sing a bit louder as we all sing ‘O Holy Night’, my favorite Christmas hymn. I again imagine that night, that holy night that Jesus was born. I picture the starry sky, glistening like diamonds. I think of the smell of the hay that lay in the manger. I think of the animals around them; the Shepards and Wisemen bowing before the King. How lucky were they to of met the Savior, even at an early age. I imagine what it would have been like to feel sweet baby Jesus’ hand wrapped around my finger. What a holy night it must have been.

We finish our songs and sit down again. Pastor then opens his Bible and begins to read from Luke chapter 2, the story of Jesus’ birth. “For unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Savior which is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign unto you, ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

When then stood up and gathered together in a circle. We each were handed a candle. Pastor lit his candle and said, “This is the Light that came into this world on Christmas day. See how this one Light can give light to so many lives.” He then lit the candle of the person next to him with his candle. That person did the same and so on. When my candle was lit, I shared it with my younger brother. “We as Christians are to share the light with everyone we come in contact with, just like we are sharing this light with the people next to us.”

After every candle was lit, Pastor said a prayer. “Lord, we thank you for giving us Your Light on that Christmas day. We thank You for giving us Your Son to save us from our sins. We pray that You will help us to share Your Light with everyone we come in contact with, just like we did tonight. Amen.” We all then sang one last hymn, Silent Night.

Once the song was over, we blew out our candles. However, the candle in our hearts stilled burned bright for our Savior. This light could never be blown out.

Christmas Check List~ Haylie Gregory

Christmas comes and goes so quickly, so, in order to get the most out of this joyous holiday, I have made a list of things to do! Why don’t you try to do this list as well!

1)      Read Luke 1 and 2 and pray to God, thanking Him for the best gift ever, His Son!

2)      Send out actual Christmas cards, not those electronic ones you get in an email!

3)      Watch your favorite Christmas movie with you family!

4)      Go through all of your stuff and donate what you don’t want!

5)      Bake goodies and give them away! (I know, it’s hard to give away such treats, but it’s better to give than to receive!)

6)      Share some hot chocolate or apple cider with a friend!

7)      Volunteer at a food pantry or soup kitchen, better yet, just volunteer somewhere!

8)      Get a candy cane.

9)      Read ‘Finding Father Christmas’ by Robin Jones Gunn. It’s a great Christmas read!

10)  Hand out invites to your churches Christmas service! (Family and friends don’t count!)

11)  Sing Christmas carols at the top of your lungs, in the shower!

12)  Grab a friend and do some Christmas shopping!

13)  Buy a poinsettia.

14)  Relax in a peppermint-scented bath.

15)  Give God a gift… yourself!

Enjoy your Christmas holiday and have a Merry Christmas!
